Sourav Ganguly praises Joe Root for his century, which helped England defeat New Zealand in the first Test. Ganguly, former India captain and current BCCI president, praised Joe Root after the England batter scored a century in the Lord’s Test against New Zealand.

ked against England in the Lord’s Test against New Zealand, right-handed batter Joe Root delivered, and his unbeaten century helped the Ben Stokes-led side go 1-0 up in the three-match series. Root reached his century on Day 4 of the first Test, and he also reached 10,000 runs in Test cricket. As soon as Root mentioned the milestone, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly praised the batter, describing him as an all-time great.

“Joe Roooooooot ..what a player what a knock under pressure ..an all time great ..@bcci @icc,” tweeted Ganguly.

After Alastair Cook, Root is the only England batter to have scored 10,000 Test runs.

England were set a target of 277 in the first Test against New Zealand, and the hosts were left in trouble at 69/4 in the 20th over.

Root and Ben Stokes, on the other hand, joined forces and put on 90 runs for the fifth wicket. After Stokes’ wicket fell after scoring 54, the match was once again in doubt, with England on 159/5.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ben Foakes then came out to bat, and he and Root put on an unbeaten 120-run stand for the sixth wicket to help England win by five wickets.


Root and Foakes finished unbeaten on 115 and 32, respectively.

The second Test between England and New Zealand will now begin on June 10 at Trent Bridge.
