I’m not like Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, or anyone else: RR captain Sanju Samson. “I try to appear as natural as possible.” Last year, Samson stated.
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson led his team to one of their best IPL performances in recent years, and the team advanced to the finals against the Gujarat Titans. Samson was unable to produce big knocks this time, but his contributions with the bat at Nos. 3 and 4 were significant, as he scored 458 runs in 17 matches at a strike rate of 147.
More than his batting, Samson’s captaincy skills astounded everyone, as he came perilously close to lifting the cup for his team after taking over as captain last year. RR last won the IPL championship in 2008, but have not been able to replicate their feats since.
His ability to successfully lead a team was evident by the way he handled the pressure this time with calm and composure. Samson told Malayalam film director Basil Joseph last year that he admires Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni’s captaincy abilities but does not want to emulate them.
“I am not like Dravid or Dhoni or anyone else.” So I try to be as natural as possible. Primarily, I try to gauge the team’s mood. Often, they are pumped up and you don’t need to tell them that you should try your hardest. It’s sometimes the stupidest thing you could say because everyone wants to perform to the best of their abilities,” he told Indian Express after being named Royals captain last year.

Rahul Dravid inspired us to give it our best: Samson
During his time with India A, Samson collaborated closely with Rahul Dravid. He was inspired by Dravid and stated that the former cricketer “motivated” the young players to give their all on the field.
“His speeches were powerful. He frequently spoke of life’s higher purpose. His words had the hypnotic power to hold our attention for an extended period of time. But, more than his speeches, he was compassionate and understanding. He cared about us and thus inspired us to do our best. That’s the atmosphere we’re aiming for in Rajasthan,” Samson explained.
