England’s new Test captain is Ben Stokes.
Ben Stokes, an all-rounder, was name captain of England’s men’s Test group by the Britain; and Ridges Cricket Board on Thursday. The news comes after Joe Root stepped down as England captain earlier this month, following a series of atrocities; including an 0-4 flagellation by Australia in the Fiery Bowl. The current ICC Test Championship cycle has Britain at the bottom of the standings.
“The England & Wales Cricket Board has named Durham’s Ben Stokes captain of the England Men’s Test team. He takes over as the 81st captain of the England Men’s Test team, succeeding Joe Root. Following the proposal of England Men’s Cricket Managing Director; Rob Key, the ECB Interim Chair and Chief Executive Officer accepted the appointment on Tuesday evening; “In an official statement, the ECB stated.
One of Stokes’ major goals would be to win the postponed fifth Test against India; in July this year in order to avoid England’s first home series defeat against India in 15 years.
Stokes, regarded as one of England’s most prolific match-winners across all forms; succeeds Root, who ended a five-year reign as captain. Root retired as England’s most successful Test captain, despite the recent setbacks.
Root led England to 27 victories and 26 defeats in 64 Tests. All of these are England captain records. Among those who have led England in 50 or more Tests; his win percentage of 42.18 is second only to Michael Vaughan’s (50.98).
Rob Key, the Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket, stated of the appointment:
“I had no reservations in recommending Ben for the position of Test captain.

The ECB’s Chief Executive Officer, Tom Harrison, stated:
“I am ecstatic that Ben has accepted to become England’s Men’s Test captain; which is yet another outstanding milestone in his illustrious England career.
Feeds debuted in Test cricket in December 2013 and has since played 79 times for his nation. In February 2017, he was chosen vice-captain; and he moreover served as captain when Root was absent for the birth of his moment child within the summer of 2020. Durham’s star by and by has 5,061 Test runs at a 35.89 normal. With the ball, he has 174 wickets and is one of the beat all-rounders within the world.
