Rishabh Pant leads a protest and asks batters to leave the game because of the no-ball controversy.
The Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals met at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday in another entertaining IPL 2022 match. Buttler’s third century of the season helped Rajasthan Royals win by 15 runs. However, the game grabbed headlines for all the wrong reasons after referees failed to award; a waist-high no-ball to the Delhi Capitals’ players and support crew. As DC captain Rishabh Pant gesticulated angrily at the umpires, the match devolved into a total farce.
Pant appeared to be requesting the two batters at the crease, Rovman Powell and Kuldeep Yadav; to return to the dugout at one point. Pravin Amre, one of DC’s assistant coaches, even onto the field to speak with the umpires.
After the tumultuous circumstances, better sense prevailed, and Rajasthan Royals pacer Obed McCoy; who had been blasted for three straight sixes, held his nerves to give RR a 15-run victory.
Earlier, RR recorded 222 for two after being called into bat; due in large part to a magnificent century from Jos Buttler, his fourth in the IPL and third this season. Devdutt Padikkal smashed a 54-ball 54, while captain Sanju Samson smashed a 19-ball 46.

In response, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner got off to a fast start; but DC continued to lose at a steady rate. Pant scored 44 points on 24 balls to lead his team. RR pacer Prasidh Krishna bowled a wicket-maiden in the 19th over, leaving DC requiring 36 runs off the last over. Powell, a West Indian power hitter, hammered McCoy for three straight sixes to give DC a glimmer of hope; but that hope was swiftly dashed when DC decided to appeal the no-ball judgment. In the dugout, Powell and the rest of the DC players and staff assumed; McCoy’s waist-high full-toss was a sure-fire no-ball.
Before Amre stepped onto the field to speak to the umpires, another DC assistant coach; Shane Watson, was spotted having a few words with Pant.
Watson claimed after the game that the type of behavior shown in the last over was not representative of the Delhi Capitals.

After the game, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant stated about the incident; “I had hoped that no-ball would be beneficial to us, but I have no control over that. Yes, I’m disappointed, but there’s nothing I can do about it. Everyone was upset (in the dugout) because it wasn’t even close, and everyone on the field could see it. I believe the third umpire should have intervened and called it a no-ball. Obviously, it wasn’t proper (to send Amre onto the field), but neither was what happened to us; it occurred in the heat of the moment. Both sides were at fault, which is regrettable because the tournament has seen some excellent umpiring.”
