SRH Pacer Umran Malik: “Speed comes naturally to me, and I am my own role model.”
Umran Malik, a 22-year-old SunRisers Hyderabad pacer has amazed everyone with his ability; to bowl rapid deliveries, and he consistently bowls in the 145-150kmph area. Umran has made such an impression on Indian; greats that several have already stated that he will play for Team India. Malik has nine wickets in six games in the present IPL 2022 season. Umran talked up to NDTV about his desire of playing; for Team India and how quick bowling comes easy to him.
“I’m a natural speed demon. This year, I’m focusing on hitting the proper spots. I was always a fast bowler. My own role model is me. I used to jump out when Irfan Pathan came to instruct us, and I was fairly inconsistent; I couldn’t bowl in one location consistently. When he arrived, however, I began to jump out less and began to find my groove. I simply want to make Jammu and Kashmir proud, as well as the entire country. All I want to do is perform well “Malik, Umran.
“I have to perform, and seeing cricketers post about me made me feel really proud. It’s encouraging to see such famous names tweeting about me; they must have noticed something in me to tweet about me. Right now, the best bowlers in the world are Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar “Added he.

Umran replied when questioned about his family’s;support for him fulfilling his dream of playing cricket: “My parents have never discouraged me from participating in cricket. My parents have always been my biggest supporters. When I was competing in COSCO competitions, I used to play till 2 a.m.; yet my family never said anything to discourage me. My parents had total faith in my abilities. My sisters have also been really supportive.”
The delivery by Umran Malik that rattled Kolkata Knight Riders skipper; Shreyas Iyer’s stumps was much discussed in the cricket community. Dale Steyn, the SRH fast-bowling coach, was present in the dugout to celebrate the wicket with Muttiah Muralitharan.
When asked about his thoughts when pitching his superb yorker; the SRH pacer replied, “I noticed Shreyas Iyer trying to clear space and hit a lofted ball. At the back, I had two players. It seemed only natural that if I bowled a yorker, I would either get a dot ball; or give up a single. I was ready to bowl a conventional delivery when I notice; the extra room he had created, so I bowled a yorker. After that, he was fired, and the strategy worked.”
“It’s a fantastic feeling to be working with such a legendary figure (Dale Steyn). He’s a major player, and working with him; has given me a lot of motivation and taught me a lot “Added he.

Umran took four wickets in the recent game against Punjab Kings, returning with statistics of 4-28. He also took three wickets on his own in the penultimate over of the PBKS innings; one of which was a run-out, turning the over into a four-wicket maiden.
Umran had this to say regarding Kane Williamson’s leadership: “I create my own playing field when I bowl. He never says anything, even if I get hit for a four or six. I have two favorite wickets this year. The first is Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals), who hit me for 20 runs in my first over; and the second is Shreyas Iyer (Rajasthan Royals).”
“Every bowler wishes to be able to bowl in every situation. I’m bowling in the middle overs because someone needs to bowl in that position, and I’m enjoying it. I’m willing to bowl anytime the team needs me “Added he.
