MI will play CSK in a battle to avoid elimination from the IPL.
Mumbai Indians, who are on the edge of elimination following six straight losses will need to win their first; match of the IPL to stay afloat when they meet Chennai Super Kings on Thursday. Mumbai, the five-time winners, have yet to win a game this season; and a loss on Thursday will see them eliminated from the tournament.
CSK, the defending champions who sit only a rung above bottom-placed MI, have similarly struggled as a unit; despite some individual brilliance. With five losses in six games, a loss on Thursday would put them in danger of being eliminated.
The form of Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma, who has only 114 runs in six innings, is the biggest concern. He’ll have to do the bulk of the scoring if Mumbai has to chase or post a huge total. Ishan Kishan, a young batter, has also failed to justify his hefty purchase tag of Rs 15.25 crore. He’ll have to perform better than the 191 runs he scored in six encounters with the help of two half-centuries.
Dewald Brevis, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav have all played some sparkling knocks on their own; but the middle-order as a whole needs to take responsibility.
On paper, Mumbai has the batting ammunition, but they haven’t yet detonated in unison. They’ll be hoping for it to happen against CSK, who have an inexperienced bowling attack. If batting is a concern, Mumbai’s bowling is a far greater concern. Except for Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai’s bowlers have struggled; whether it’s Tymal Mills, Jaydev Unadkat, Basil Thampi, or Murugan Ashwin, the main spinner.

In their last match, Mills leaked 54 runs in three overs against the Lucknow Super Giants; while Unadkat and Ashwin went for 32 and 33 runs, respectively. Mumbai tried Fabian Allen, but he, too, was called to task; as he let up 46 runs in four overs in the previous encounter.
The greatest furthermore for Chennai is Ruturaj Gaikwad recapturing his mojo with a 48-ball 73 against Gujarat Titans. With their savage hitting, Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube shone within the team’s; solitary win against Regal Challengers Bangalore, but the twosome battled against Gujarat.
Along with Ambati Rayadu and Moeen Ali, the squeeze hitter, who has looked out of sorts; Dube will ought to shed his one-match ponder moniker and bear more obligation. The finishers may be captain Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Jadeja hasn’t looked especially perilous with the bat and will ought; to make strides in case his squad is to halt the MI hitters.
Except for Dwayne Bravo and spinner Maheesh Theekshana, the CSK bowlers have been below par. Chris Jordan bled 58 runs against Gujarat, and Mukesh Choudhary has been leaking runs. With Deepak Chahar ruled out and Adam Milne still recovering from injury; CSK will have to rely on these bowlers to deliver.
