West Indies Women’s Group Finds They’ve Made It to the World Cup Semi-Finals

The fate of the West Indies Women in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 hung in the balance; when India and South Africa faced off in the tournament’s last league stage encounter on Sunday. India Women had six points going into the match, while West Indies had seven points after their league stage matches. India would leapfrog the Windies and advance to the semi-finals of the tournament if they beat South Africa. So it’s no wonder that Stafanie Taylor and the rest; of the team were keeping a close eye on the India-South Africa match.

The game was down to the final over, and after a lot of drama; including a wicket off a no-ball, South Africa won with the last delivery.

The West Indies Women’s team shouted in ecstasy as Mignon du Preez hit the winning runs.

The players were shown dancing and screaming in delight when it was confirmed; that they had advanced to the semi-finals in a video shared by Cricket West Indies.

In a tweet, they added, “To the semi-finals WI go!!!!!”

They also released another video in which the team can be seen praying before bursting into a chant; which is followed by further celebrations.

Defenders of the title England defeated Bangladesh earlier in the day on Sunday; moving ahead of the West Indies Women in the standings.

In the semi-finals, the West Indies Women will meet the formidable Australian team; who won all of their matches and ended first in the table.

South Africa and England will compete in the other semi-final.
