Delhi Capitals hired Biju George as the fielding coach
Biju George has been hired as the fielding coach for the Delhi Capitals for the upcoming season. He will take over for former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif, who held the post until last season. Biju will join a coaching group that includes head coach Ricky Ponting, his compatriots Shane Watson and James Hopes; as well as former India cricketers Ajit Agarkar and Pravin Amre, among others.
“We have taken him for the season and he comes with good years of expertise; – both in the IPL and international cricket,” a franchise promoter said to Cricbuzz on Wednesday (March 9).
The team, led by Rishabh Pant, will meet in Mumbai; on Thursday (March 10) for the first time, though the captain will arrive later. On March 27, the Delhi Capitals face the Mumbai Indians in their debut game.
Biju is a former fielding coach for the Indian women’s team and has worked with Tushar Arothe; WV Raman, and Ramesh Powar, the team’s most recent coaches. For two years (2015 and 2016), the coach from Trivandrum was involved with Kolkata Knight Riders; then for a year in 2020 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He also coached Kuwait’s national team in the interim.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals are concerned about the availability of their South African players; Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi, who are both speedsters. While Nigidi is set to play Bangladesh in three One-Day Internationals; from March 18 to 23, Nortje has been pulled out due to a niggle.

Nortje, who was retained by the franchise, is anticipated to join the squad; but there is no word on Ngidi, who might play in the two-Test series against Bangladesh; which begins on April 12 and concludes on April 12. The administration of the Delhi Capitals is hopeful that the Board of Control for Cricket; in India will raise the issue with Cricket South Africa.
