India against Sri Lanka: Ravichandran Ashwin Reveals How “Magnanimous” Ravindra Jadeja Sacrificed Overs For Jayant Yadav
Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed Kapil Dev’s 434 wickets on Sunday to become the second-highest Indian wicket-taker in Test cricket history. On the third day of India’s first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali, Ashwin completed the feat by dismissing Charith Asalanka. After bowling Sri Lanka out for 174 and 178 runs in the first and second innings, respectively, India won by an innings and 222 runs, having declared their first innings at 574/8. Ashwin finished the Test with another wicket, bringing his total to 436 in Test cricket.
Ravindra Jadeja, who struck an unbroken 175 with the bat and took five wickets; in Sri Lanka’s to begin with innings and four within the moment, was complimented by Ashwin after the game. Jadeja and Ashwin conceded that they gave up many overs to grant Jayant Yadav; the side’s third spinner, extra bowling time. According to the experienced spinner, captain Rohit Sharma needed to give Jayant some overs; and it was Jadeja who was the primary to provide up his overs.

“In the meanwhile, we both realized Jayant hadn’t bowled much. It’s often difficult for someone who is going to be the third spinner in the team; and he has been the third spinner for a long time to get a long enough spell. So Rohit wanted to make sure he got some bowling in as well “After the game; Ashwin stated on Star Sports.
“The spinners take a few overs to bowl; so it was essentially a question of who was willing to give up a few overs at that stage. Jaddu (Jadeja) chose to take him on from the opposite side, where there was a little more spin “Added he.

“Then I had to give up on the opposite side a short time later. Being the third spinner in a side isn’t always simple, so we wanted to look after him a little bit. Jaddu was truly gracious in giving the ball away first.”
