Shakib Al Hasan will play in the Test against South Africa, according to BCB President Nazmul Hassan.
After being unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auctions, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan is optimistic that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan would play in the Test series against South Africa. According to Hassan, Shakib has previously stated that he would miss the Test series against the Proteas due to the IPL 2022.
“Shakib sent us a letter requesting a six-month hiatus from testing. When we questioned why he would miss the Tests against South Africa and Sri Lanka, he responded it was because of the IPL. I told him that he needed to play against Sri Lanka, and he agreed. I don’t see why he shouldn’t play the Test series in South Africa now that he won’t be playing in the IPL. So put it out of your mind. This is no longer a thought in my head. He had been unable to play [the two-Test series] due to the IPL, but he will now play [both series] “According to ESPNcricinfo, Nazmul Hassan stated.
“Any player has the right to refuse to play in any format. That is not a problem for me. They must, however, inform me. Because of the IPL, he told me he doesn’t want to play Tests against South Africa and Sri Lanka. I don’t see any other choice now that it (participation in the IPL) is no longer an option “Added he.
Meanwhile, Jalal Yunus, the BCB’s cricket operations chairman, stated that no player is required to play every match because the board does not view players as “simple employees.”
