Mohammad Abbas a Pakistani pacer and Yasir Shah, a Pakistani spinner, have been held in reserve for the Australia series.
Following a complaint to Pakistan’s supreme cricket authority for issues pertaining to his fitness and attitude; speed bowler Mohammad Abbas has been placed on the reserve list for the home Test series against Australia.
Cliffe Deacon, the national team’s physiotherapist, reportedly complained; to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja over Abbas’ attitude, according to a source. Abbas has played 25 Tests so far. “Apparently, Deacon, who has been with the Pakistan team for some time; told Ramiz that he was unhappy with Abbas’s approach to his training and bowling in the nets,” the source stated.
He said Deacon had complained to him that Abbas, 31, was not working hard enough during training; causing him to slow down. “The board then spoke with Abbas, who told them that he would quickly increase his pace; and devote full time to the team’s exercise plan and requirements,” the source continued.
However, after hearing from Deacon the team’s management chose to retain Abbas; in the reserves until he improved his fitness and net speed. “Abbas’ pace has slowed to around 123-125kmph; which is insufficient for a new ball bowler in Test cricket,” the insider claimed.
Yasir Shah, a veteran leg-spinner, had also been placed in the reserves due to fitness and other reasons, he said.

Yasir’s fitness has been a problem for him, and it’s affecting his bowling. As a result, when training in Lahore for the Australia series; both he and Abbas have been urged to work especially hard on increasing their fitness,” he added.
Yasir lost favor with the board after his name was linked to a police investigation; in which relatives of a 14-year-old girl said that the player threatened them while attempting to protect; a close friend accused of sexually assaulting the kid and producing tapes with the goal to blackmail her.
