Ashes 2021: England’s preparation for Day 3 of the 2nd Ashes Test, according to Ben Stokes

Despite finishing Day 2 on 17/2 in response to Australia’s first-innings total of 473. England all-rounder Ben Stokes believes his team can battle back on Day 3 in Adelaide.

Mitchell Starc removed Rory Burns for four runs in the third over to give the hosts their first breakthrough. Before terrible light forced an early end to the day’s play. Debutant Michael Neser snared Haseeb Hameed with his second delivery.

England is currently facing another humiliating setback after falling behind 1-0 in the series. Ben Stokes, on the other hand, is convinced that his team can turn things around with the bat on Day 3.

“We know that tomorrow is going to be a good day for batting. Losing two wickets is not ideal, but tomorrow is a new day. We’ll park everything, just like we parked the result in Brisbane.” Stokes said

“We don’t believe we’re beaten already.” he added

England skipper Joe Root is up against an in-form Australian pace three once again, with his side trailing by 456 runs. Senior cricketers like Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes will also be under pressure to deliver when the team needs it most.

Stokes’ first series after taking a hiatus in July to deal with his mental health and recover from a broken finger is the ongoing Ashes.

The 30-year-old was not initially included in England’s Ashes squad. It was only added late before the team left for Australia. Stokes said he had enjoyed every minute of his return.

“I’ve loved every minute of being back. Walking out onto the field and wearing the Three Lions is one of the greatest feelings as a cricketer. Being away from home makes it a bit more difficult with the crowds but playing in these Australian grounds is fantastic fun and a huge honour.” he said

“It has been worth coming back. If you don’t feel sore coming off the field and you don’t feel sore waking up in the morning. Then you’ve probably not done what’s required of you.” he added

Stokes’ return to play was uneventful, as he only managed 5 and 14 with the bat at the Gabba. On Saturday (December 18), he’ll be anxious to get back on track and put up a decent showing with the bat.
