Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin agreed with Virat Kohli’s decision to forego the ODI series. but suggested that the timing be improved. The 33-year-request old’s comes after Rohit Sharma was handed the ODI skipper.
Kohli’s only captaincy responsibilities are with the Indian Test team. Since the T20 World Cup, he has stepped down from all T20 leadership roles. In white-ball cricket, the BCCI wanted to keep only one captain. As a result, Rohit Sharma was named the Indian team’s ODI and T20I captain.

“Virat Kohli has informed that he’s not available for the ODI series & Rohit Sharma is unavailable for the upcoming test. There is no harm in taking a break but the timing has to be better. This just substantiates speculation about the rift. Neither will be giving up the other form of cricket.” he said
After suffering an injury during practice, Rohit Sharma will not be selected for the Test lineup. Kohli, on the other hand, has opted out of the One-Day International series to spend more time with his family during his daughter’s first birthday celebrations.
The BCCI has selected Rohit Sharma as the Test team’s vice-captain, thereby ending the term of Ajinkya Rahane. No vice-captain appointed for the tour due to the 34-year-absence old’s from the three-match series.
Team India has entered a bio-bubble in Mumbai ahead of their departure for also South Africa on December 16. The tour will begin in Centurion with the Boxing Day Test. The ODI series will begin in Paarl on January 19.
