Saba Karim, a former India wicket-keeper batsman, has emphasized the importance of Rohit Sharma to the batting unit and expressed regret over his absence. After suffering an injury during a nets practice, India’s newly appointed Test vice-captain will miss the Test series against South Africa.
For the series, Sharma has been replaced by India A captain Priyank Panchal. As the only seasoned openers left in the squad, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal are set to open the innings.
Rohit Sharma
Sharma’s services on recent overseas travels were recognized by Karim, who believes he was essential to navigate the Proteas pace assault.
Karim also discussed India’s choice to use dual leaders for limited-overs and Test cricket.
“Rohit Sharma’s absence is a huge setback for India. He has brought back stability to the top-order. The way he has adapted his game to Test cricket has been brilliant. Especially the way he batted in English conditions, spent so much time on the crease, negotiated the strong bowling attack in favourable conditions. he said
“South Africa have a strong bowling attack as well, against such an attack, it is important that you have your important batsmen fit and in form. So, his absence is a huge blow. Now, KL Rahul will open with Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal had a good series at home, but in overseas conditions he has to bat in testing conditions.” Karim added
Sharma has established his place as the team’s opener after a strong start in the new role. He bolstered his case by giving outstanding performances on India’s recent abroad travels to Australia and England.
