On Sunday, Rohit Sharma, India’s new limited-overs skipper, paid respect to his predecessor Virat Kohli. He praised Kohli for his tenacity and drive in leading India and placing the team in a position where “there’s no turning back.” The 34-year-old stated that he has enjoyed every bit of their time together and will continue to do so in the future.
When Virat Kohli stepped down as T20I captain following this year’s World Cup, Rohit Sharma took over. He was named ODI captain by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier this week. Presumably to preserve consistency in leadership across both white-ball formats. In addition, he has been named Test vice-captain, with Virat Kohli continuing to lead the team in the longest format.
For the first time since the debate and clamor over the leadership changes. Rohit Sharma was asked about Virat Kohli’s legacy. He also praised the Test captain for leading from the front every time in the last five years. Saying the team had a “wonderful time” under his leadership.
“He’s put the team in a situation where there’s no looking back. Those five years that he’s led the team, he led from the front every time we stepped onto the park. Yeah, there was clear grit and determination to win every game. That was the message to the entire squad and we had a great time playing under him. Obviously, I have played a lot of cricket with him together. I have enjoyed each and every moment and I’ll still continue to do that.” he said

In 2017, Virat Kohli took over as India’s captain. India became a near invincible white-ball team at home during his five years in command. As well as one of the toughest abroad adversaries, particularly in bilaterals. He led in 95 One-Day Internationals and 50 Twenty-One-Day Internationals, winning 70.43 percent and 64.58 percent of them, respectively.
In the same breath as praising Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma stressed the importance of the Men in Blue focusing on their development as a team and as individuals.
“We need to get better as a team, get better as individuals. That’ll be the focus of not just me but the entire squad moving forward. And that’s what we’ll be looking forward to, you know, keep getting better and make sure [we know] how we can get better as a team.” he said
