Former Tamil Nadu cricketer Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan spoke on the strain Australia will face. As a result of the poor build-up to the Ashes and the lack of red ball play. The last time Australia wore whites was during their tragic loss to India at The Gabba in January 2021. They will now take on the Ashes under the leadership of new captain Pat Cummins.
When asked about the potential pressure on the home team. Vidyut stated it is difficult to find your rhythm in the game’s longest format. To preparation for the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, Australia focused on white-ball cricket, which they won. While Vidyut recognizes Australia’s talent, he believes the transition to Test cricket will be difficult.
“I think it is going to be really hard, they all are great proven cricketers. They have performed in all formats. But, it has been a year since they have last played a Test, so that is going to be the biggest challenge for them. How much ever cricket you play, Test cricket is a different ball game,” Sivaramakrishnan
Given the current weather, it’s unclear how much of the match will be played at The Gabba. The city of Brisbane has been hit by La Nina, which has resulted in a lot of rain and is predicted to cause cricket in Australia to be postponed.
Chennai Super Kings
According to the former Chennai Super Kings star, the first Test, which will be played at the Gabba, would be a mental battle for Australia. In their previous encounter at the same venue, the Kangaroos were trounced by India. India reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, ending Australia’s 31-match unbeaten streak at The Gabba.
“Getting back to Test cricket after a long time is not going to be easy. Yes, they won the eWorld Cup, they have been in good form in white-ball cricket But, the last Test match they played, they played at the Gabba and lost to India and that will still be playing on the back of their minds, they’re playing on the same ground as well, they’re playing against a good English side.” he said
“So, first Test, the players may be a little rusty. However good you are, you need to get back into the groove. It’s going to be the same for England, they last played against India in June but, it’s slightly better Test form. So, Australia are going to find it little difficult and they don’t have much time. So many things going, I don’t want to say going against them, they’re going to get a new captain in the format, they have not played for a while and lot of expectations.” Vidyut said
On December 8 (Wednesday), Pat Cummins will captain the Australian team for the first time in Brisbane.
