IND vs NZ 2021: Ajaz Patel was New Zealand’s star player on Day 1 of the second Test against India

IND vs NZ 2021: Ajaz Patel, a left-arm spinner for New Zealand, was the star performer on Day 1 of the second Test against India. He got four wickets for the visitors, putting them on the back foot.

Shubman Gill was first dismissed by Ajaz, ending an 80-run opening stand between Gill and Mayank Agarwal. He then sent Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli packing for ducks in his next over. When he got Shreyas Iyer caught behind off his pad, he terminated another 80-run partnership.

India finished the day at 221/4, with Ajaz taking all four wickets after winning the toss and deciding to bat. If it hadn’t been for Mayank Agarwal’s spectacular, defiant century, it would have been his day.

Ajaz Patel expressed his feelings after the day’s play, saying that getting the wickets was fantastic. He did, however, acknowledge that there is still work to be done.

“This is what dreams are made of. To be out here and to go up there and pick up four wickets in the first day is pretty special. At the same time the job is only half done, so we need to turn up tomorrow and work hard for the last wickets.” he said

“It is obviously quite evenly poised at the moment with India still having six wickets in hand. But we have done well to get inroads into their line-up. The reality of Test cricket is if you put the ball in good areas for long periods of time, you will see rewards.” he added

For the second Test, Ajaz Patel returned to his hometown and put up a unique performance to commemorate the event.
