Brad Hogg says “Surely India lose a review with Ashwin reviewing being bowled” on Day 2 of the Mumbai Test

Ravichandran Ashwin’s decision to review his dismissal by Ajaz Patel on Day 2 of the Mumbai Test has been questioned by former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg.

The New Zealand spinner mistook Ashwin for a golden duck. The Indian no. 7 sprinted forward to defend a Patel delivery. But the ball turned enough to pass through his bat and devastate the wickets.

Even before the umpire lifted his fingers, Ashwin requested a review. Believing he given caught behind. He immediately discovered, however, that the ball had kissed the off-outer stump’s part before falling in the keeper’s hand.

On social media, the Indian spinner’s choice to go for the review drew a lot of criticism. Before seeking to review, Hogg believes Ashwin should have addressed the dismissal with his non-striker partner.

“Surely India lose a review with Ashwin reviewing being bowled. If your unsure of why your out you consult your partner not be given a hint by the umpire.” Brad Hogg wrote

In another tweet, Hogg expressed surprise at Ravichandran Ashwin’s decision to seek a referral.

“I was surprise he reviewed!” Hogg wrote.

In only two deliveries, India lost Wriddhiman Saha and Ashwin to Ajaz Patel. Who claimed his third five-wicket haul in Tests. Mayank Agarwal and the hosts’ centurion, Axar Patel, held off the new ball brilliantly to create another crucial partnership that helped them avoid danger.

India were 269/6 at the time of writing, with Mayank Agarwal on 143 and Axar Patel on 23.

Ravichandran Ashwin recently passed Harbhajan Singh to become India’s third-highest wicket-taker in the longest format, with 417 scalps. In Mumbai, the Indian off-spinner will be aiming for another huge record.

However, Ashwin only needs six more wickets to reach 50 for the calendar year. A feat he has accomplished three times before in 2015, 2016 and 2017. With 44 wickets, he is tie with Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi. As the joint-highest wicket-taker in 2021.

If Ashwin achieves this feat, he will equal Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble. Who have each taken 50 wickets three times in a calendar year.
