Justin Langer has stated that he still has nightmares about Ben Stokes’ unbelievable century

Justin Langer, Australia’s coach, said he still has nightmares remembering Ben Stokes‘ incredible century at Headingley during the previous Ashes series. That knock helped England win the Test by a single wicket.

Langer, on the other hand, praised Stokes’ return to international cricket after a mental health hiatus, saying the Ashes would be incomplete without one of the game’s superstars.

When Stokes scored an undefeated 135 in the third Ashes Test of 2019, he produced one of the best Test innings ever. England slumped to 286 for 9 against a target of 359 for win. Stokes, on the other hand, bowled a brilliant innings to lead England to an amazing one-wicket victory. He had previously taken three wickets in Australia’s second innings.

“He’s a great cricketer, no doubt about that. I still have nightmares about his innings in the third Test. I suppose more nightmares about his spell on day three of that game.” he said

The hosts’ victory in the Headingley Test was a remarkable reversal after they were knocked out for 67 in their first innings.

“It’s great for the game of cricket that he’s playing Ashes cricket and we all love it. It’s an Australian summer and it wouldn’t be the same without the best players playing. Thus, It’s really nice to see. Hopefully his health is good. We welcome him out here because he’s one of the superstars of the game.” he said

Since leading England to a 3-0 whitewash over Pakistan in a three-match ODI series at home in July, Stokes has not played any international cricket.

Langer has also spoken out about the Tim Paine sexting scandal. The coach, who backed the former Australian Test captain, said the wicketkeeper-batter is’shattered.’

Paine is now out of the game indefinitely. Many observers believe that the 36-year-old will not play for Australia again.

“He loves cricket. He absolutely loves cricket. And he’s 37. He is a fit as any athlete, certainly in our squad. He looks after himself so well. He’s very focused. So who knows. I’m not sure we’ve seen the end of him. But we’ll wait and see. That’ll be his decision.” Langer asserted

Alex Carey, who will replace Paine as the team’s wicketkeeper-batter in the first Ashes Test in Brisbane, will make his Test debut.
