IND vs NZ: Senior players Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ishant Sharma were ruled out of the the second Test

Senior players Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ishant Sharma have been ruled out of India’s second Test against New Zealand due to injury concerns. When Virat Kohli, the team’s regular captain, was unavailable, Rahane took over as captain.

In order to accommodate Kohli’s return to the playing XI in the second Test. The management had to make a difficult decision to drop one of the hitters. The status of Ajinkya Rahane has been heavily scrutinized in recent years due to his inconsistency. Rahane was also ineffective in the first Test against New Zealand.

Calls for Rahane to be dropped flooded in before of the second Test. Team management has often been chastised by fans and critics for sticking with Team India’s vice-captain despite not receiving the promised results.

As a result of all of this, it appeared that Rahane would be replaced in the starting XI for the second Test by Kohli. Fans were taken aback this morning when it was revealed. That Rahane will miss the second Test owing to a hamstring injury.

They were wary of the situation, believing that the BCCI was concealing Rahane’s exclusion by citing injury worries.

IND vs NZ

Kane Williamson, New Zealand’s captain, will also miss the second Test against India in Mumbai due to a long-term elbow injury. Williamson was sidelined for a number of games this season owing to the same issue. In his absence, New Zealand’s opener Tom Latham will lead the team in this match.

“While we’ve been able to manage the injury through the year and the T20 World Cup. The shift to Test cricket and the increased batting loading has re-aggravated his elbow. Ultimately the injury is still not right and while he got through the Kanpur Test. It was clear playing in the second Test wasn’t an option.” he said

Meanwhile, the wet outfield in Mumbai has forced the start of the second Test on Day 1 to be postponed. According to the current timetable, the first ball will be bowled at 12 p.m.
