IND vs NZ 2021: Wasim Jaffer, a former Indian opener, has shared his thoughts on how India should handle Virat Kohli’s return to the second Test against New Zealand. The simplest option, he argues, is to fire Mayank Agarwal. The 43-year-old believes Mohammed Siraj should be picked in the squad for the second Test in Mumbai.
The two sides will meet at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday after a draw in the first Test in Kanpur. India’s skipper, Virat Kohli, will return to the team after taking a much-needed break and opting out of three T20Is and the first Test against New Zealand.
“The easiest option is to drop Mayank and open with Saha if fit, if not then Srikar Bharat. I also want Siraj to play, maybe in place of Ishant. He’s (Siraj) been in terrific form. The Wankhede pitch will suit him and there might be reverse swing as well.” he said
Cheteshwar Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara must also play with a positive and aggressive mindset, according to Jaffer. He pushed Pujara, who has recently struggled with form, to bat aggressively and push the game forward.
“Pujara should bat with positive intent. The way he batted during the later stages in England. I know he can bat in an attacking way, but sometimes he abstains himself from doing it. Plus he’s very used to these Indian conditions. He should bat with an aggressive approach once he settles in and should move the scoreboard and game forward. He’s a treat to watch when he does that.” Jaffer mentioned
Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have had a bad run recently. In contrast, Shreyas Iyer starred in his first Test, blasting hundreds in both innings. As a result, it’ll be interesting to see who replaces Rahul Dravid in the lineup to make room for Kohli. IND vs NZ 2021
