Glenn Maxwell hasn’t given up on playing Test cricket and wants to reclaim his spot in the side

Glenn Maxwell, Australia’s limited-overs specialist, hasn’t given up on his dream of playing Test cricket and wants to restore his place in the team. Maxwell indicated that he is in talks with selectors about returning to the format.

Maxwell hasn’t played in a Test match since Australia’s two-Test tour of Bangladesh in 2017. Selectors have resorted to using the 33-year-old as a white-ball cricketer since then. Maxwell, on the other hand, believes he can adjust to Test cricket.

Glenn Maxwell stated that returning to the Australian Test team is still a possibility, and that he is confident in his ability to re-establish himself in the team.

“It’s definitely realistic. I think I am probably playing as well as ever have at the moment. I feel really good about my game. And I have been able to work on different techniques for different formats, which has really helped going forward. Thus, I have been in constant contact with selectors and they have been really clear about if opportunities do pop up then I am ready for red ball,” Maxwell stated

So far, the experienced cricketer has 339 runs in seven Tests, including a single century. Maxwell’s first-class statistics are also quite encouraging, with an average of 39.81 in 67 games and a total of 4061 runs, including a top of 278.

“Next year is obviously a heavy sub-continent tour year. There could be opportunities with guys coming in and out. There is a lot of cricket next year, you don’t want to burn guys out through the season so there could be a host of changes. So I have to make sure I am playing well when they pick those squads in any format.” he said

The Australians will travel to Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and India, where they will play Test matches. They will be eager to improve on their dreadful track record on the subcontinent over the years.
