The Mumbai Indians’ Director of Cricket Operations, Zaheer Khan, discussed the team’s decision to keep Keiron Pollard. He admitted that Keiron Pollard’s influence inside the team convinced management to keep him ahead of the IPL 2022 Auction.
The Mumbai-based franchise, which has several outstanding players on its roster, had some of the toughest decisions to make in the retentions on Tuesday. It was ‘heartbreaking,’ according to skipper Rohit Sharma, to let go of some major names. Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, and Trent Boult, among others, had to be released by MI.
MI has retained four players for the IPL 2022 season: Rohit Sharma (16 crores), Jasprit Bumrah (12 crores), Suryakumar Yadav (8 crores), and Kieron Pollard (6 crores).
Zaheer Khan praised West Indian all-rounder Keiron Pollard for being the pack’s leader for the longest time after the retention.
“Pollard has been the leader of this group for the longest time. One of the strongest finishers in the game. His influence around the team has been great. He leads from the front with Rohit Sharma. So each guys who are retained, they are leaders in their own positions, and in their own rights.” he said

The 34-year-old Caribbean all-rounder has been with the Mumbai Indians since 2010, and has five IPL titles to his credit.
Zaheer Khan also expressed his delight in the fact that a number of players began their careers with MI. They then went on to make their respective countries’ international debuts.
“Lot of the players started their journey here, they’ve groomed themselves here and a lot of the players from this group have gone on to represent their respective countries. So that’s what you feel proud about. It’s not the end of the road, that’s how one should look at it. So there’s still a chance that we get a lot of them back.” Zaheer Khan said
Zaheer Khan stated that the Mumbai franchise has made every effort to make the finest retention decisions possible. He also emphasized that the squad must consider how to keep its core together. Zaheer Khan believes his team has prepared well for the coming years.
