IPL Auction 2022: Daniel Vettori believes Mumbai Indians’ decision to not retain Hardik Pandya for IPL 2022

IPL Auction 2022: Daniel Vettori believes the Mumbai Indians‘ (MI) decision not to keep Hardik Pandya for the IPL 2022 season was solely based on financial considerations. Every club, including MI, would love to have Pandya on their team. According to the former New Zealand spinner, but the five-time winners were unable to persuade him to stay.

MI have signed three-year contracts with Rohit Sharma (16 crores), Jasprit Bumrah (12 crores), Suryakumar Yadav (8 crores), and Kieron Pollard (6 crores). If Hardik Pandya had been kept, he would have received only the third position. A wage drop of at least 3 crores from the previous season.

“It’s simply about money, it has to be. There’s no way that Mumbai [Indians] didn’t want Hardik Pandya, every franchise wants him. But they would have only been able to offer him that third spot because and Bumrah and Rohit rightly take up those two slots.” Daniel Vettori said

Venky Mysore, the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, was also mentioned by Daniel Vettori as noting that successful IPL teams frequently suffer the problem of being unable to retain some of their top players.

“So unfortunately for Mumbai, they are the product of their own success. And this was Venky’s point when we were discussing with him that you develop players and you get them to a point. Where they are critical to a franchise but then it’s incredibly difficult to hold onto them. I am sure that Hardik Pandya would have been a top priority but they just couldn’t fit him in.” Daniel Vettori explained

If MI is unable to reclaim Hardik Pandya in the super auction, the seven-year alliance will come to an end. The all-stock rounder’s climbed from a low of ten lakhs in 2015 to a high of eleven crores throughout this period. As he scored 1476 runs (at a strike rate of 153.91) and took 42 wickets (at an average of 31.26) in 92 matches.
