The 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) retentions are finally official and there were a few twists and turns along the way.
As the franchises attempted to craft the best plan ahead of what is believed to be the final mega-auction. Certain key players were released and others were kept. The auction pool will include players like Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, and Jofra Archer, but their individual teams should be able to live without them.
However, following the IPL 2022 retentions, these three teams could be in serious jeopardy.
#3 Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians (MI), the five-time champions, haven’t made many blunders in the IPL auction’s history. MI, regarded as one of the most astute franchises in the game, has made a succession of astute decisions and low-cost purchases to assist them attain unprecedented success.
#2 Sunrisers Hyderabad
In recent weeks, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. In IPL 2021, SRH finished dead last, with skipper David Warner being drop in unusual circumstances.
#1 Punjab Kings
The Punjab Kings (PBKS), like SRH, have lost their most important match-winner – KL Rahul. With head coach Anil Kumble admitting that the star opener wants to be part of the auction. Rahul was unwilling to continue with the organization.
PBKS has a history of dubious auction judgments. It appears that they will be unable to cope without their most crucial player. According to rumors, even two uncapped players, Shahrukh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi, declined to stay with the franchise. Negotiations with Nicholas Pooran appear to have fallen through as well.
With only Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh remaining, PBKS will face a difficult battle in making the playoffs. Then never alone contending for the IPL trophy that has eluded them for years.
