IPL 2022 auction: KL Rahul has bid adieu to his former IPL franchise Punjab Kings on social media

On Wednesday, KL Rahul took to social media to bid farewell to his former IPL side Punjab Kings. On November 30, 2021, all IPL franchises released their retention lists for the following season.

The former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player has decided to depart the Punjab Kings after the 2021 IPL. On Instagram, KL Rahul posted a photo of himself.

According to rumours in the Times of India, he might play for and potentially captain the new Lucknow-based team in the 2018 season.

KL Rahul, who previously played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, was purchased by the Punjab Kings for 11 crores in the 2018 IPL auction.

He has been the finest batsman for Punjab during the last four years. In 2018, he amassed 659 runs in 14 games, followed by tournament totals of 593, 670, and 626 runs in 2019, 2020, and 2021, respectively. In 2020, he also awarded the Orange Cap.

The Punjab Kings’ head coach, Anil Kumble, recently revealed that the team wanted to maintain KL Rahul for the 2019 season. According to the former leg-spinner, Rahul chosen to skipper the team with long-term potential in mind.

“Of course, the major challenge for us was Rahul. Obviously, we wanted to retain him. That’s one of the reasons we chose him as captain 2 years ago, so he could be the core of the team. But he decided to go into the auction, we respect that decision. It’s the players’ prerogative,” Anil Kumble said.

KL From the 2020 IPL season forward, Rahul will captain the Punjab Kings. Ravichandran Ashwin was replaced by him. Rahul was the team’s captain for 27 games and was on the winning side 11 times. Under his leadership, the team lost 14 games. Under Rahul, PBKS won one and lost the other of the two games that went to the Super Over.
