Sachin Tendulkar hails commendable display by tail-enders in Day 5 of 1st India-New Zealand Test

Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer, praised India and New Zealand for their unwavering determination in the first Test in Kanpur. The match between the two teams went all the way to the wire before being called a draw.

Over the course of five days, the momentum shifted frequently, and in the end, only a single wicket separated the two teams. Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel, New Zealand’s penultimate batting partnership, survived a 52-ball spin onslaught to save a draw.

Sachin Tendulkar commended the duo’s performance, given how difficult it is to bat on a Day 5 surface in India. On Twitter, Tendulkar wrote:

“Both #TeamIndia and #NewZealand had their backs against the wall at various stages of this game and both teams fought hard to come back into the game.

“To survive 52 balls on the last day of the Test was commendable. This is what makes Test match cricket fascinating.”

After the first session on the last day, India failed to take a single wicket. The match appeared to be going for a draw.

The Men in Blue,

The Men in Blue, on the other hand, took advantage of New Zealand’s cautious attitude. In the next session to make a comeback.

India fought valiantly but fell short of grabbing the final wicket, putting the attention on their declaration timing and choice to take the new ball late.
