Former India batsman Dodda Ganesh slammed the team’s management for continuing to back Ajinkya Rahane despite his poor batting form in recent years.
He chastised India’s Test vice-captain, arguing that even tail-enders can get a fifty in 15-20 innings.
Ajinkya Rahane led Team India in the first Test against New Zealand at Kanpur in the absence of Virat Kohli. The 33-year-old had a dismal outing with the bat.
He hit 35 runs in the first inning before departing for four runs in the second. When the team sorely needed someone to hold down the fort after a top-order collapse.
After observing Rahane’s repeated failures, Dodda Ganesh resorted to Twitter. To express his displeasure with team management’s decision to back him.
“Even a tail ender can get a 50 once in 15-20 innings. Enough is enough”
Following a tense stalemate in the first match, India and New Zealand will travel to Mumbai. For the series’ second and final Test. Which will begin on December 3.
Rahul Dravid
After examining the pitch and playing conditions at the Wankhede Stadium later this week. Team India head coach Rahul Dravid indicated that they will decide their starting lineup.
“Look, we haven’t decided what our playing 11 would be. It would be very early [to talk about that now]. Today we were only focused on this Test only. Dravid said
“When we go to Mumbai, we’ll look at the conditions, the pitch, Virat Kohli will come in too so there will be a discussion with him as well. Then we’ll take a call on what will be our playing 11 and who will play.” he added
Who makes way in the starting XI for Virat Kohli, who is set to return for the second Test in Mumbai, will be interesting to watch.
Shreyas Iyer was named player of the match for his outstanding debut performance in the first Test, contributing significantly in both innings. At this point, abandoning him would be unjustifiable.
