Dinesh Karthik hails Wriddhiman Saha after Day 4 of 1st India vs New Zealand Test

Wriddhiman Saha, the wicketkeeper-batsman, was lauded by Dinesh Karthik for his courageous, unbroken 61 against New Zealand in Kanpur on Sunday. Karthik expressed his delight at seeing “someone with elderly legs” demonstrating how it’s done.

Wriddhiman Saha came in to bat with India struggling at 103-6 and a 152-run advantage.

The 38-year-old batted alongside Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel to lift the score to 234-7. After missing Saturday’s game due to a neck sprain. Against Will Somerville, he hit four boundaries and a six in a 126-ball innings.

Dinesh Karthik, speaking on the show ‘Cricbuzz Chatter,’ said he appreciated the knock even more because Saha was under pressure to save his spot in the team after the emergence of KS Bharat.

“What I like about him is that he was again having his back against the wall in this Test. This could have easily been one of his last Test innings because there would have been a lot of pressure. To bring Srikar Bharat for the next Test. he said

“But again I was just happy to see Wriddhiman Saha bat because he’s a solid batter. He’s really good, he’s got a bit of dogfight in him, you know. He fought his way through a stiff neck, changed his stance up. Batted differently to what he’s used to but delivered. he added

The half-century by Wriddhiman Saha was his first in over four years. Saha, who has been overshadowed by the young Rishabh Pant. He hasn’t played for India since the Adelaide Test in Australia last year, making his return all the more remarkable.

During the same interview, cricketer-turned-broadcaster Simon Doull called Wriddhiman Saha a “street fighter” who gets the job done when India needs him the most.
