Sachin Tendulkar, India’s batting legend, is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in history. He has, however, contributed immensely to India’s triumph with his immaculate bowling spells on several occasions, in addition to his batsmanship.
The Little Master’s last-over heroics in the Hero Cup semi-final versus South Africa in 1993 are still remembered by die-hard cricket fans.
On November 24th, it will be 28 years since the multi-nation tournament’s crucial semi-final. Against South Africa, Tendulkar had to defend 6 runs off the penultimate over. In his video, he stated that his body and fingers were tight and that he had not bowled a single over during the match.
Mohammad Azharuddin
Despite this, he was confident in his ability to bowl the final over, even under duress. Mohammad Azharuddin, the captain, eventually pitched the ball to him for the vital over.
Tendulkar only gave up 3 runs in the over, helping India to a historic victory. He stated that the crowd’s encouragement made a significant impact in calming down the opposing hitters.
“When we met in the middle, I told Azhar that I am more than happy to bowl and I am confident that I can bowl this over. Every ball and every run mattered. But the way the crowd was with us was incredible. Each dot ball was appreciated unbelievably and that mounted pressure on them.” he said
Tendulkar recalls the wicketkeeper’s first five deliveries, when he stood up to the stumps. He did, however, instruct Yadav to stand back since he meant to throw a yorker on the penultimate ball.
