Michael Clarke says “You’ll be looking for 15 years, we won’t have a captain” slams Cricket Australia

Cricket Australia (CA) has been chastised by Michael Clarke over the Tim Paine incident. Clarke stated that if Australia searches for a captain with a flawless record, it will be left with few possibilities.

After sexually explicit conversations he sent to a female coworker in 2017 surfaced. Tim Paine announced his decision to resign as captain. Former players and administrators have criticized CA for concealing up the incident. At the time and then dumping Paine after it became public.

Clarke was convinced that CA had left their leader in the cold. He went on to say that if the team is seeking for a captain with a perfect personal record. They may wind up with a 15-year search that is fruitless.

“Where is the backing of the player as well? You’ll be looking for 15 years (if you want a captain who hasn’t done anything wrong), we won’t have a captain,” said Clarke

Michael Clarke used Ricky Ponting as an example of someone who overcome a rocky start in his career to become a great batter and captain.

“Go back in my time even to Ricky Ponting. If that’s the case, he never would have captained Australia. He had a punch up in the middle of a Bourbon & Beefsteak. Are you not going to give him the job because of that? He’s a great example. He’s shown you how time, experience, maturity, playing at the highest level and even the captaincy turned him around,” Clarke added.

Australia has won 47 Tests, 74 One-Day Internationals, and 18 Twenty20 Internationals under Michael Clarke’s leadership. At the ICC Men’s World Cup 2015, held in Australia and New Zealand, he also led the team to its fifth world title.
