India vs New Zealand: Gautam Gambhir says “You won’t hear such statements from Rahul Dravid”

Gautam Gambhir, a former India opener, has identified one big difference between previous head coach Ravi Shastri and current head coach Rahul Dravid.

Shastri’s tenure as the Indian men’s team’s head coach came to an end after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup. India may not have won a big ICC title during his reign. The team’s consistency in all three formats, as well as their dominance in Test cricket, particularly in foreign settings, remain highlights on his record.

Gambhir was recently asked about Shastri’s legacy during an interview with Times Now Navbharat. Shastri’s words in the media following India’s Test victories overseas were criticized by the 2011 World Cup winner.

“The one thing I found surprising is that when you play well, you don’t usually boast about it. It’s fine if others talk about it; when we won the 2011 World Cup, no one gave statements saying that this team is the best in the world, let alone country.” said Gambhir

India vs New Zealand

India rose from seventh to first place in Test cricket under the leadership of Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri.

For 42 months, the Kohli-led team remained at the top of the rankings. They not only maintained their domination at home, but they also won back-to-back series in Australia. In a five-match series in England earlier this year, they won two of the four Tests. Next summer, the final Test will be held in Birmingham.

Gambhir praised Shastri and his team for India’s remarkable progress in Test cricket. However, he believes the previous coach should have avoided making strong pronouncements in the public after each victory.
