Robin Uthappa- “He can bat at 4-5 so that Pant has support to finish games” in IND vs NZ 2021

Suryakumar Yadav, according to Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa, can bat at No. 4 or No. 5 and assist Rishabh Pant in concluding the innings. Suryakumar’s adaptability, according to Uthappa, is his most valuable quality, since he can bat everywhere.

In the first of three T20Is against New Zealand, Suryakumar batted at No. 3. It all started on Wednesday in Jaipur. For his 40-ball score of 62. For his contribution to India’s five-wicket triumph, the 31-year-old was named Player of the Match.

Despite Suryakumar’s performance at one-down, Uthappa believes that whenever Virat Kohli returns to the T20I team, he will be more beneficial to India at four or five.

“The guy brings in a sense of versatility. He can move up and down the batting order. Surya gets in there and gets going. The array of shots that he has got makes him a dangerous batter at any position. He can bat at 4-5 so that Pant has got some support to finish games.” he said

Suryakumar said after India’s first T20I triumph over New Zealand that he doesn’t have a particular position and is happy to bat everywhere for the team in a post-match interview.

Thanks to the right-half-century, India chased down a target of 165 with two balls to spare. After Suryakumar was dismissed, Rishabh Pant (17*) led the team to victory.

Daniel Vettori

Daniel Vettori, a former New Zealand captain, agreed with Uthappa’s assessment on Suryakumar. According to the Kiwi legend, the 31-year-old has made the most of his opportunities and should be a regular member of the Indian T20I squad.

“With the kind of performances he has come up with, Suryakumar has set himself aside from the rest of the pack. He could be the guy to bat 4-5 to complement the Top 3. He is confident from the time he goes out to bat and it just suits T20 cricket.” Vettori opined

Suryakumar has three half-centuries and 243 runs at a strike rate of 160.92 in nine T20Is.
