In the second India-New Zealand T20I, wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik and former cricketer Ajay Jadeja have suggested Harshal Patel as a viable replacement for Mohammed Siraj. Siraj tore the webbing of his left hand on Wednesday while bowling the final over in Jaipur, and is set to miss the remainder of the season.
Despite the fact that both Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan are in terrific form, Dinesh Karthik believes Harshal Patel’s change of pace will assist him in Ranchi. He did suggest, though, that team management will be looking for Avesh Khan’s improved speed to add variety to the assault, making it a “nice headache” to have.
“Both of them are bowling at the best of their careers so far… So you can blindly play any one of them. I personally feel Harshal Patel will be better because obviously, you know, the change of pace in Ranchi [which is a] slightly slow wicket. Avesh Khan is very good with slower ones as well but Harshal Patel is bowling with such good rhythm that you want to give him the opportunity and see what he brings to the table. But another way you look at it is – you have somebody who bowls 135 in Deepak Chahar and Bhuvi. If you want someone with more pace then the option is Avesh Khan. It’s a good headache to have…” said Dinesh Karthik
Mohammed Siraj
Ajay Jadeja concurred with Dinesh Karthik Patel was the leading wicket-taker in the IPL 2021, with a season-high 32 wickets. Khan was just behind him, having taken 24 wickets in 16 games. Meanwhile, thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s heroic last over and the efforts of other bowlers, India reduced New Zealand to 164-6 and chased it down with two balls to spare.
