Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Mohammad Rizwan, has spoken about his medical visit prior to last week’s semi-final match against Australia. After complaining of extreme chest trouble two days before the semi-finals, Rizwan was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“When I went to the hospital, I wasn’t breathing. The doctor’s kept telling me I’ll soon be discharged but I ended up staying two days in ICU. One of the nurses told me that had I been 20 minutes late in reaching the hospital, both my windpipe would have burst.” He said
“They used to conduct regular tests but the constant thought in my mind was that I’ll soon get fit to play the match. The doctor told me that he wanted me to play the semi-final for Pakistan which gave me a boost.” he added
Rizwan not only played in the semi-final, but he also scored the most goals for his team. The first hitter hit a 52-ball 67. His contribution, though, was in vain, as Australia chased down 177 with an over to spare to qualify for the final.
Rizwan’s rise as a T20 batsman is one of the most fascinating stories of our time. He’s come a long way from being dubbed a Test specialist. To becoming the first batsman in the shortest format to amass 1000+ runs in a calendar year.
Richard Pybus
Rizwan commended Richard Pybus, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Pakistan’s assistant coach Shahid Aslam for their remarkable achievements. As a result, he’s established himself as one of the game’s most dependable batters.
“This record is dedicated to all of Pakistan. I have always taken criticism as motivation. I would like to thank a few people who have played a key role in me making this record. Richard Pybus, Inzi bhai (Inzamam-ul-Haq) and Shahid Aslam have played a crucial role in me achieving success in T20 cricket.” He said
However, Rizwan went on to say that the criticism he received from his critics served as a motivator for him.
“It was a challenge because people always used to say that I can’t play in shorter formats. The management’s decision to allow me to open helped me as it gave me a driving force to prove myself,” he added.
Rizwan finished the competition as the tournament’s third-highest run scorer. He hit three 50-run home runs in six games, averaging 70.25 runs per game and striking out 127.73 times.
