T20 World Cup 2021:Aaron Finch has admitted that pacer Josh Hazlewood’s experience of playing for CSK in the IPL in 2021

The experience of bowler Josh Hazlewood playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL in 2021 had a huge impact on Australia’s chances in the T20 World Cup 2021, according to skipper Aaron Finch.

With the ball, Hazlewood was the star player for Australia in the T20 World Cup 2021 final against New Zealand. Taking 3 for 16 in a fantastic performance. Previously, the medium-pacer was a significant player in CSK’s IPL 2021 victory, taking 11 wickets in nine games.

Finch stated at a post-match press conference that Hazlewood shared his experience playing for CSK with the Australian team. Which benefited the team greatly.

“He (Hazlewood) was really important to our bowling group. To be able to share his experience at CSK was really important – the lengths to bowl. Particularly at the end of the tournament. Where the wickets start to get a little bit more worn and hard lengths, which is Josh’s speciality, was tough to hit. And it was really important that he passed on that information.” Finch said

Hazlewood pushed his way into the starting XI ahead of Kane Richardson because to his strong bowling performances in the IPL, according to Finch.

“Honestly, his performances in the IPL probably forced his way into the starting XI over Kane Richardson. Who is a wonderful T20 bowler and someone who has been so important for us. But yeah, that was a tough call.” he said

Hazlewood took 11 wickets with a strike rate of 13 and an economy rate of 7.29 in seven matches during the T20 World Cup 2021.

Many critics believed Australia had little chance of winning the T20 World Cup 2021 because its T20 players hadn’t played together in a long time. Some even took a break, skipping tours of Bangladesh and the West Indies as a result.

Finch nodded in agreement when asked if being away from the bubble life helped the players stay fresh.
