Salman Butt backs Australia opener for hitting six off Hafeez no-ball during T20 World Cup 2021 semis

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt lauded Australian opener David Warner for displaying superb game awareness by hitting a Mohammad Hafeez no-ball for six in the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final, which bounced twice.

Former cricketers have questioned Warner’s sportsmanship in smashing Hafeez’s delivery, which did not come out correctly. Butt, on the other hand, saw nothing wrong with Warner’s actions.

According to the former Pakistan captain, the Australian opener deserves credit for understanding the regulations and making the most of his opportunity.

“Full marks to Warner for game awareness. He was mentally aware that it was a no ball and capitalized on it. He knew what the rules were. It was an awkward low ball that bounced twice and Warner still managed to smash it for a six. It was very quick feet movement and great thinking.” he said

Butt challenged the argument that Warner’s action was against the spirit of cricket by asking if batsmen would not hit full tosses if the bowler didn’t get it straight.

“Lot of people are saying it is against sportsman spirit. But the law allows you to do it. It was a kind of loose ball. Would a batter let a full toss ball go because the bowler did not get it right? What Warner did was exactly what he should have done.” He stated

With 49 runs in the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final against Pakistan, Warner was the leading scorer for Australia. The Australians scored 177 points to go to the final versus New Zealand.
