Michael Vaughan has thrown his weight behind Eoin Morgan to continue as the white-ball leader: T20 World Cup 2021

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has backed Eoin Morgan to keep his position as white-ball commander. Following England’s semi-final defeat in the 2021 T20 World Cup, Eoin Morgan’s future has been called into question.

On Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, Eoin Morgan and his teammates were defeated by New Zealand in the knockout round. The most disappointing aspect of England’s performance was their death bowling, which let them down when the game was in their grasp. Michael Vaughan, on the other hand, believes Morgan is entitled to withdraw on his own terms.

Morgan should continue as captain for next year’s T20 World Cup, according to Michael Vaughan, writing in his Telegraph column.

“The end of a tournament inevitably prompts questions about the future of an England captain but Eoin Morgan should carry on if he feels he has the ambition and appetite to take the team to next year’s Twenty20 World Cup. He has achieved so much with England that he should be left to make whatever decision he feels is right for him and the team. Eoin will know when it is time to move on, you just do as an England captain. It is not up to us to decide.”  Vaughan wrote

Morgan’s leadership is important to England’s hopes in T20 cricket, according to the 47-year-old, who believes they will struggle to find a better captain.

Morgan’s captaincy record speaks for itself, with England’s Super 12 triumph over Sri Lanka establishing him as the most successful T20I captain in history. He has now won 43 games in the format, surpassing MS Dhoni and Asghar Afghan. The veteran has a 50-over World Cup victory to his name and led England to the World T20 finals.
