Matthew Wade, Australia’s semi-final hero, has explained why David Warner did not appeal the umpire’s on-field decision. After he was wrongfully dismissed against Pakistan’s Shadab Khan.
David Warner, who was batting well at 49 when he was caught behind in the 11th over. It was a turning point and could have been a losing one for Australia. When the googly sailed past his bat and into the keeper’s hands. There was a sound, and Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab both launched into a furious plea.
UltraEdge eventually revealed a flat line and an obvious space between the bat and the ball after the first hitter walked off without reviewing it.
After the game, Matthew Wade responded to Sportskeeda’s question by saying Warner didn’t think it was out either.
Glenn Maxwell
Warner’s crease partner, Glenn Maxwell heard a sound. That he thought came from the edge and counseled Warner against using a review, according to Matthew Wade.
“So a little bit of reassurance from the other end I suppose [would have helped] but that’s now how it [went] with Maxy. Maxy heard a noise and he was batting out there. So hopefully something like that doesn’t happen in the next match but we just got to work it out. The thing is we get 2 reviews in this format so you can sort of say that we should have used it but that’s the way it goes.” He said
Warner and Maxwell would have been hard pressed to forgive themselves if it hadn’t been for Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis‘ remarkable undefeated 81-run partnership. Wade hit three jaw-dropping sixes against Shaheen Shah Afridi with his team needing 21 off 10 balls. To win a five-wicket victory – unquestionably one of the best in Australia’s T20I history.
