Mark Boucher says “I certainly don’t think the door is closed for anyone” in the 2021 T20 World Cup

Mark Boucher, South Africa’s head coach, has stated that no player is off the radar for any format in the foreseeable future. Mark Boucher made the comment in the context of Faf Du Plessis. Who was left out of the 2021 T20 World Cup squad despite having a strong pre-tournament performance.

Faf Du Plessis, a former Proteas white-ball captain. He had a fantastic season in the CPL and the IPL 2021. Du Plessis scored 277 runs in the Caribbean. Then, with the Chennai Super Kings, he hit 633 runs in a title-winning season (CSK). That wasn’t enough, though, to get him into the World T20.

Mark Boucher claimed that Du Plessis‘ entry in the World T20 squad was hampered by scheduling conflicts. The former keeper-batsman, on the other hand, claimed that he hasn’t yet played his final game for South Africa.

“I certainly don’t think the door is closed for anyone. The Faf conversation was had, and unfortunately, it just didn’t work out with the scheduling and all that stuff. It’s been tough during Covid times and bubble life, I understand from his perspective with family, has been very tough. Going forward, hopefully we can get out of bubble life. As soon as possible and get back to some sort of normality with regards to touring,” he said

“I haven’t sat down with the selectors and spoken about the future of Faf yet, but we will definitely have that conversation with regards to Faf and other players as well. With the Kolpak guys, we’ve always said that the guys need to come back into our system and do really well, and we’ll judge them on how we’re going to play in our franchise system.” he said

Rilee Rossouw, who signed a Kolpak contract in 2017, is now playing for the Knights in South Africa and could be available for the national squad in the near future. Duanne Olivier, a seamer, had previously expressed interest in playing for his native country.
