After India’s impressive victory over Scotland on Friday in Dubai, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja showed his lighter side at the post-match briefing.
However, In Match 37 of the T20 World Cup 2021, India thrashed Scotland by eight wickets. India bowled first and dismissed the opponents for 85 runs before chasing the markdown in 6.3 overs. Thus, Jadeja was named Player of the Match for his 3 for 15 performance.
During a post-match press conference, the all-rounder was strangely asked about India’s plans if Afghanistan lost to New Zealand. in a clever fashion.
“Toh phir bag pack karke ghar jayenge, aur kya? (Then we will pack our bags and go home, what else?).” Jadeja replied
T20 World Cup 2021
Only if Afghanistan defeats New Zealand and India defeats Namibia will India qualify for the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-finals. Even in this scenario, India will need to outperform both Afghanistan and New Zealand in terms of run rate to finish second in Group 2.
On a more serious note, Jadeja was asked what India did to recover from two humiliating defeats. The left-arm spinner claimed that the squad did not evaluate itself based on two poor performances.
“We don’t judge ourselves based on one or two bad games. This can happen to any team in the T20 format sometimes. We have been good all over the world over the last two to three years across formats. But we are not thinking about that now. We are looking forward to the opportunities that we have, and we will look to play well, like we did today and in the previous match, in the last game too.” Jadeja said
In their first two matches, India was defeated by Pakistan and New Zealand by 10 wickets and eight wickets, respectively. They won the T20 World Cup 2021 for the first time after defeating Afghanistan by 66 runs.
India’s first two matches were played at the same site where they beat Scotland on Friday. After the team’s thrashing, Jadeja noted that batting first and second in Dubai is like playing on two different surfaces.
