As such, Former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar has questioned the decision to leave veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021’s first two games.
This comes after India was defeated by Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two games. They didn’t get any wickets against Pakistan, and only two against New Zealand.
Varun Chakravarthy, a mystery spinner who has looked relatively mediocre thus far in the league, has been put high on the management’s aspirations. Vengsarkar is baffled as to why Ravichandran Ashwin was selected after four years in the squad if he is not going to participate.
“Why is Ashwin being so dropped for so long? It is a matter of investigation. Across formats he is your best spinner with more than 600 international wickets. He is your senior most spinner and you don’t pick him.” Dilip Vengsarkar said
“I fail to understand. He didn’t play a single game in the England Test series also. Why do you pick him then? It is a mystery to me.” He further added

Ravichandran Ashwin, incidentally, was impressive in the warm-up games leading up to the T20 World Cup. In the last practice game versus Australia, he had 2/8.
As such, After disappointing performances in their first two games against Pakistan and New Zealand, Indian players have been scrutinized. The players appeared uninteresting throughout the first two games, according to Dilip Vengsarkar.
“The team looked off coloured and players looked jaded. I don’t know if it is the bio bubble fatigue or something else, I have not seen such body language in the players in a long time,” Dilip Vengsarkar added.
Virat Kohli and his team’s chances of reaching the semifinals are currently on a knife’s edge. All of their remaining games must be won by a large margin. They must also consider the results of New Zealand and Afghanistan in order to join Pakistan in the top four from Group 2.
