Deep Dasgupta feels that the IPL could be used as a potential benchmark to select players for India’s T20 squad

Deep Dasgupta, a former India wicket-keeper batsman, believes the IPL might be utilized. As a criterion for selecting players for the country’s T20 squad. It would be comparable to the country’s other domestic cricket enterprises. Several members of the current squad have used the competition as a springboard and platform.

Given how competitive the IPL is, Dasgupta argues that performances should be evaluated more highly. Because the Ranji Trophy is regarded as a must-win competition for selection into the Test squad. Dasgupta believes that the IPL might be a similar tournament for T20 selection.

“IPL is one of the most competitive leagues in the world. Then why not depend on it for T20 WC squad selection. Like we see Ranji Trophy for Test match cricket, why not use IPL similarly. Yes, there is the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, but the talent gets filtered there. You perform well in Syed Mushtaq Ali and then you come into the IPL. If that’s the case then IPL performances should be a benchmark based on which people are selected.” Dasgupta said

Yuzvendra Chahal and Shreyas Iyer, two of the top performers in the last IPL season, were unable to make the World Cup roster.

Given how the game has changed, Dasgupta believes that Team India would need to adapt their approach. When it comes to playing T20 cricket. He detailed England’s existing system as the ideal model for India’s future preparations.

Jos Buttler

“I think it is important that the mindset, when it comes to T20s needs to change because the future of T20 cricket will be like how England plays it at the moment. No matter how big a batsman Jos Buttler is, if he gets out while trying to play a shot, it’s fine because they have depth. It does not depend on 1-2 players. They go hard from ball one but they’re sensible.” Dasgupta added

England won the 50-over World Cup thanks to their depth, prowess, and versatility. They’ve already won four games in a row in the present T20 World Cup, demonstrating their relentless style. Following their early elimination from the 2015 World Cup, the Three Lions resurrected their white-ball strategy. If India fails to qualify for the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup, they may receive a similar wake-up call.
