Despite their back-to-back losses in the 2017 T20 World Cup, Dinesh Karthik has advised fans to remain patient with the Indian squad. Virat Kohli and his teammates struggled to make an impact once again as they lost to New Zealand by eight wickets on Sunday (October 31).
The wicketkeeper-batsman claimed that the Indian cricket team has been on the road for a long period. Karthik believes that the quantity of high-profile matchups India has played this year will have an impact on a player’s mental health.
He wants fans to understand that cricketers are first and foremost human beings. The seasoned gloveman is hoping that the team’s fans can sympathize with them at this trying time.
“When you go back to a room, you’re all by yourself and you know you’ll be asking a lot of questions to yourself and you’ll be dealing with a lot of inner demons. I just wish all the supporters of India understand and are in many ways kind to the indian team. Because when they left the Indian shores, it was on may 19th and as we sit here and speak today it is closing in on November, and every day has been pressure-filled. I do hope that you know people cut them some slack and have some empathy.” Karthik said
To qualify for the semi-finals, India will have to make an incredible recovery after two losses in the competition. They are now ranked last in Group 2 after failing to make an effect on the points table.
MS Dhoni
Dinesh Karthik also mentioned that Team India had a difficult task ahead of them because they do not have many break days before their next set of matches. He is optimistic, though, that the presence of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Ravi Shastri will help the team at this trying time.
