Virat Kohli faces his toughest test yet as India’s limited-overs captain: T20 World Cup 2021

On Sunday, India will take on New Zealand in a crucial T20 World Cup 2021 match. The Men in Blue are playing their second Super 12 contest. Nonetheless, a loss would effectively eliminate them from contention for a semi-final berth.

At least in white-ball cricket, this is uncharted territory for Virat Kohli as India’s captain. This will be his third big limited-overs event as India’s captain. Despite India being among the favorites on both occasions and playing like it for the most part. He had failed to carry the team all the way in the previous two competitions.

India reached the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy by winning all of their matches. At The Oval, though, Pakistan won the match thanks to a remarkable Fakhar Zaman century and a top-order collapse.

Two years later, India dominated the league stage of the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. Then finishing first in the rankings before losing in the semi-finals against New Zealand.

India, on the other hand, is facing elimination after just one game in the T20 World Cup 2021. In what will be his final assignment as India’s captain in the shortest format of the game, this will present a new challenge for Virat Kohli.

The fact that India was defeated by arch-rival Pakistan by 10 wickets in their opening match has added to the pressure. It was Pakistan’s first victory over India in a World Cup match. Whether it was an ODI or a T20I encounter, this was the case.

While Shikhar Dhawan was outstanding in the 2017 Champions Trophy, Rohit Sharma was unstoppable in the 2019 ODI World Cup, scoring five hundreds.
