Aakash Chopra believes that the new franchises will have a difficult time attracting big-ticket Indian players. For IPL 2022 because most of them will be kept by their present teams.
Two additional teams, situated in Lucknow and Ahmedabad, will join the IPL in 2022. A big auction will take place before the competition. With rumors claiming that existing teams will be permitted to keep up to four players (three Indians and one overseas, or two Indians and as many overseas).
“Four players can be retained, it is a slightly mind-boggling number. The problem is if all the eight teams retain three players on an average in which three can be Indians as well. Then if not 24, twenty Indians are gone. From where will the new franchises get the Indian players?” He reasoned
Top-tier Indian players will have already been retained by their existing teams, according to the cricketer-turned-commentator.

“Whoever is part of the Indian team currently, who is in the World Cup currently or is part of the core group of 20-22 players. They will all be picked, no one out of them will be left.” Aakash Chopra observed
While teams have the option of keeping up to three Indian players. The majority of them are unlikely to do so. It’s possible that some of the players do not want to be kept.
“For the new franchises, they have been allowed to pick three first-choice players. But even if they are getting three picks in the beginning, it won’t be the cream, the creme de la creme players will not be there.” He explained
Thus, The 44-year-old finished by saying that the Lucknow and Ahmedabad teams may have no choice but to use foreign captains.
