Sunil Gavaskar- “I don’t think anyone else even needs to apply anymore” in T20 World Cup 2021

Sunil Gavaskar, a former India captain, has praised Rahul Dravid’s choice to apply for the position of Team India’s head coach. He believes the latter is the best individual to carry on the torch.

In the event that incumbent Ravi Shastri’s term ends after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, the position will become vacant. After speculations surfaced that Rahul Dravid was ready to become the next India coach, the BCCI has emphatically rejected Dravid getting the post. Gavaskar, on the other hand, thinks it’s only a formality.

“Without a doubt. I don’t think anyone else even needs to apply anymore. The way he has handled the Under-19 team, give them direction, the manner in which he has worked at the NCA, it just shows his capability… not only inside the ground but out of it as well. He is good at administrative duties too; he has that capability. And that is why I think him applying for the post is just a formality.” he said

Rahul Dravid is the current director of Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy. Due to Ravi Shastri’s commitments with the Test team in England, he was recently named acting head coach for the Sri Lanka series.

Sunil Gavaskar’s remarks were echoed by another former cricketer, Madan Lal, who said it is the best thing that has occurred to Indian cricket in recent times.

“As Sunny Bhai mentioned, he already has led India A and Under-19 teams to so many tours and recently even coached the national team in Sri Lanka, so when you start coaching from a junior level, you know the players that have come through the ranks,” Madan Lal said.

“This is the best thing that has happened. He has graduated from the bottom and there can’t be a better candidate. He has a calm demeanor and has several qualities that will help the Indian team go even higher,” he added

The BCCI, on the other hand, is yet to make an official declaration about Rahul Dravid taking over once Ravi Shastri’s stint ends.
