Steve Harmison-“He’s in prime confidence at this moment” in T20 World Cup 2021

Moeen Ali’s current purple streak has been spotted by former England bowler Steve Harmison. Who is open to the prospect of him being promoted up the order. Since his brilliant cameos for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, calls for the all-batting rounder’s position have been the talk of the town.

Ali batted at No. 4 against the West Indies, but it’s unclear whether he’ll stay there for the duration of the tournament or if he’ll be utilized as a floater. Because Dawid Malan appears to be playing at No. 3, Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow are a toss-up for No. 4.

England might take advantage of Ali’s current form by moving him up the order, according to Harmison. However, given England’s top-order strength, he recognized that it would be a difficult task.

“He’s in prime confidence at this moment after the IPL win. He bowled beautifully the other night, took a great catch. I actually think England would benefit from having Moeen Ali bat higher up the order, but where he fits in, it’s difficult because England has got riches in that top 6.” he said

Given England’s resources at the top of the order, former Bangladesh player Shahriar Nafees has expressed reservations about Moeen Ali being promoted. Despite the presence of Suresh Raina in the CSK squad, Ali was initially placed at No. 3, but as the competition continued, he was moved to No. 4 to make room for Robin Uthappa.

“If you look at England’s top order batting, it’s a very strong top order. In some matches, Moeen Ali can be used, but not sure whether it would be a regular call.” Nafees said

During England’s warm-up match against India, Ali was employed as a finisher at No. 6, scoring 43 runs off 20 deliveries. The spin all-rounder did not play in the team’s last practice game against New Zealand.
