Salman Butt- “Don’t expect international cricketers to react this way” in T20 World Cup 2021

Following India’s loss to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 match. Salman Butt voiced his unhappiness with Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir’s tweets.

Both Sehwag and Gambhir issued tweets after India was defeated by Pakistan by 10 wickets in Dubai, blasting those in India who “celebrate Pakistan’s triumph” by exploding crackers.

“You don’t expect international cricketers to react this way. They have played the game for so long and were such renown sportspersons. These are the people who are expected to make people understand. If they react in such away. Then obviously people around them will think what they are saying is right.” The former Pakistan skipper stated

The 37-year-old stressed that public figures such as Sehwag and Gambhir must be extra cautious about what they say and write since they have such a large fan base.

“Cricketers like them need to be careful about what they write because they have so many followers. People listen to them and what they say and do has an impact on them. They should be the people doing the best talk, giving the best speech, promoting peace and harmony. These should not talk about things that are not suitable.” He elaborated

Butt also recalled a 2004 incident in which the PCB set off firecrackers despite India winning the ODI series.

“When India was playing the ODI series in Pakistan (in 2004), PCB had arranged for firecrackers for the last match. The series tied at 2-2. The firecrackers were set off even after India won the series, which was a great gesture from PCB. This is what sportsman spirit is.” He reveal

After India’s first-ever World Cup match versus Pakistan. There were outrage reactions throughout India. While Mohammed Shami was the target of internet criticism. Indian skipper Virat Kohli also targeted.

However, Former India cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Irfan Pathan have spoken out in support of Mohammed Shami after he received online criticism following India’s 10-wicket loss against Pakistan.
