While Dawid Malan is the best T20 batsman in the world, his ability has been questioned because he consumes too many deliveries. In T20 internationals, the left-handed hitter averages 43.19. He does, however, have some trouble with spin-bowling.

Chris Silverwood defended the decision to not send Dawid Malan to bat against the West Indies, claiming that it was based on net run rate. He did say, though, that England might not be in the same scenario, and that Malan is their ‘glue.’
“Just because you saw what we did yesterday, I wouldn’t read too much into that. It was just us trying to get ahead of the game, trying to get some extra breathing space further in the tournament. We have a lot of power around him and just because we decided to go for power last night, there was a method behind that, we wanted to get the run-rate up. On other days we wouldn’t do it. To have him up the top of the order, he can act like glue for us. I think it is a role he does very well.” he said
However, Malan, who bats at No. 3, did not bat at his customary position because England elected to send their stroke makers to Dubai to chase down the mark of 56. Despite losing four wickets, the Three Lions won the match in 8.2 overs.
